Located in the western section of Palm Beach County, Royal Palm Beach is a small village that was once a swamp and hunting preserve for the Seminole Indians. Today, nearly 31,000 residents are happy to call Royal Palm Beach home, or in some cases, their home away from home.
The village of Royal Palm Beach was designed and developed by Arthur Desser, a developer out of Miami, who bought the land from Sam and Hattie Friedland. Desser wanted to include the name “Palm Beach” in his development and decided to add the name “Royal” since he liked the way the royal palms looked.
A marketing push that offered builders tracts of land in 1979 helped the growth phase of the community and the Village ballooned over the next 15 years. First was the development of Crestwood Middle School in 1983, followed by two elementary schools, and in 1997 Royal Palm Beach High School opened its doors to nearly 1,100 students.
Palms West Hospital and Wellington Regional Medical Center opened in 1986 and both hospitals are continuing with major health care expansions to this day to meet the needs of the nearly 31,000 residents.
Located just fifteen minutes inland from the Atlantic Ocean Beaches, Royal Palm Beach has something to offer to everyone. Whether you’re a beach lover or a nature enthusiast Royal Palm Beach has it all!
In 1990 the National Arbor Day Foundation named Royal Palm Beach “Tree City USA” due to the village’s dedication and high standards of preserving 10 acres of parkland per 1,000 residents. Six parks have been developed within the city limits of Royal Palm Beach as well as a state-of-the-art cultural center, recreational center and two golf courses.
In this small village of 11.5 square miles, residents and vacationers can enjoy 336 acres of parks and recreational areas full of nature trails, horse riding paths, basketball courts, volleyball courts, fishing docks, picnic pavilions, jogging trails, play grounds, softball fields as well as golf and sports training facilities.
