The history of Jensen Beach, FL dates all the way back to the 1500’s when the Ai’s Indians inhabited the area. In 1881, John Lawrence Jensen settled in Jensen Beach, which is where the communities name came from. Jensen and other newcomers to the area began planting pineapples and by 1895 Jensen Beach became the “Pineapple Capital of the World” shipping out 1,000,000 boxes of pineapples during the summer months! A pineapple factory was even built, but in 1895 hard freezes devastated most of the small pineapple farms and just a few years later two major fires destroyed the remaining farms. The pineapple industry sadly collapsed in the mid 1920s, but the legacy still continues with Jensen Beach’s annual Pineapple Festival.

One of Jensen Beach’s biggest events, the Pineapple Festival, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, is held every November in downtown Jensen Beach. Residents from all over South Florida come to Jensen Beach’s Pineapple Festival to participate in all of the activities and entertainment while enjoying great local food. There are four different music stages, a midway of rides and games for the kids, various arts and craft activities as well as tons of great food, all while looking over the intracoastal’s beautiful blue waters.
