Hobe Sound, FL is an Atlantic Coast village of only 5.7 square miles that is located in southern Martin County, nestled in between the famed Jupiter Island, FL and Stuart, FL. World class restaurants and shops, beautiful surroundings of unspoiled national parks, white sandy beaches, Martin County’s excellent school system and some of the most premier golf courses are just some of the reasons why residents love to call Hobe Sound, FL their home, or in some cases, their home away from home. According to the census of 2000, Hobe Sound’s population reached a total of 11,376 residents.

The town of Hobe Sound got its name from a Native American tribe that goes by the name of the “Jove” or “Jobe” Indians, who claimed the land before the European settlement. When the British ship, Reformation, sank offshore close to the Jupiter Inlet shore, European contact in the unincorporated Hobe Sound was first recorded. The ship was sailing from Jamaica to Philadelphia carrying 25 passengers and a cargo loaded with sugar, rum, beef, molasses, and Spanish currency. A Quaker merchant named Jonathan Dickenson was among one of the 25 passengers on this ship, little did he know that an 11,500 acre state park will one day be named in his honor.

Some of the most beautiful beaches and wilderness areas Florida has to offer are either within Hobe Sound or just minutes away. Jonathan Dickenson State Park is one of Hobe Sound’s main tourist attractions and is known to be a great place for those who love nature and all its surroundings.
